The year 2010 has been dubbed "Year of the Tablets" by Yahoo! News and for very good reasons. To start with, tablets were virtually unheard of in past years, and even the e-book readers that were already in the market paled in comparison to the tablets of today. Suffice to say, e-book readers are/were nowhere close to tablets; tablets are not [just] e-book readers. But what do you make of a tablet that serves as both lifestyle accessory and a functional communication gadget?
Perhaps there is no better word to use in referring to a device that has all the features of a conventional tablet other than the name of the very first of its kind in the world; the PLDT TelPad has finally made its premier to the public and is poised to grace the Filipino household with a communication
package that has never been seen in history.

Anatomy of a PLDT TelPad
A typical PLDT TelPad unit has the same functions as a regular landline except for the browsing support and extra features packed inside the tablet
Not much to point at when talking about the units' parts since it isn't biology we're discussing. Simply put, a PLDT TelPad will have a deck that has a corded phone, and an Android tablet. The Android tablet has been designed in such a way that users can maximize their phone experience and even discover new ones.

Amazing features
It's really difficult to say that the PLDT TelPad is a telephone--cause it most definitely is not! I would call it a portable communication pod (word vomit, yes) which allows you to surf the internet while talking to friends over the landline.

Some may say that the current design is too wasteful and/or unnecessary because of known fondness that Filipinos have of mobile phones, but the convenience of staying connected to both communication dimensions is an admirable development in the telecommunications industry.

I gave up my PLDT subscription years ago but I'm considering signing-up again because of the PLDT TelPad. ►
The PLDT TelPad's tablet has many different things to offer: digitized calling system (allowing you to transform the tablet into a phone of sorts), a news application, lifestyle and home tools such as recipe guides, movie guides, music support, etc. In fact, an SD card slot can be located along the sides of the tablet, further giving emphasis on user satisfaction. Say, that will be useful in playing more mp3's!
The PLDT TelPad's also proudly Gawang Pinoy (Philippine-made), the result of partnerships among different companies in the Philippines. “We are proud that the PLDT TelPad was conceptualized and developed here in the Philippines using world‐class technology,” says PLDT president & CEO Napoleon Nazareno.
Plans for the PLDT TelPad starts at Php 1,849 for 1 Mbps* connections. Existing myDSL subscribers who wish to avail of the PLDT TelPad plans need only to add Php 500 to their current plan.

The TELPAD is great. It is not meant to replace your PC/Laptop or even your smart phone. I believe it is to enhance your landline phone use and experience. Residential phone user don't have their phone ringing off the hook, and even so it won't be, all the time. This enhancement allows you to do more since it is an Android 2.2 platform.
ReplyDeleteYou can read free ebooks, organize your daily activities, and can even save your grocery list and follow an e-cook book while cooking. After which you can help your kids do the homework while the dad or mom is busy with the home computer.
Some advises though, don't loose or break the unit or it will cost you some P14,000. It comes with a lock-in 3 year period inclusive of battery replacement and necessary repairs. Downgrade from Telpad plan before the 3 year term is just P2,500.
